Northern Arizona by Rail
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been interested in everything about trains. In the more recent years, I’ve moved into photographing trains to both capture the moment while also showcasing the trains in an artistic manner. During my time spent next to the railroad lines waiting for those trains, I’ve often looked down the tracks and began to think about how if you were to walk down those tracks, you’d see completely different cities, scenery, and landscapes compared to where I was standing now. In a sense, I was asking myself two questions: Where do these tracks go, and how does the landscape around the tracks change? These are questions that many people don’t think about when waiting for a train to pass, crossing the railroad tracks, or even just looking down the tracks and off into the distance. Since this is an often under looked thought about the railroad lines around us, I’ve spent the last semester photographing the trains of Northern Arizona within the different landscapes as they cross from one end of the state to the other. This gives you the ability to feel like you’re in the cab of a train, watching the scenery go by, and witnessing those changing landscapes next to the tracks, and in the future, you too might look down a set of train tracks and like me, wonder where those tracks go and how does the landscape around the tracks change.
