Hi, I'm Emily Hunt!
Hello, my name is Emily Hunt! I grew up in the San Francisco bay area and later moved to Flagstaff to pursue a degree at Northern Arizona University. By the end of this spring, I plan to graduate from N.A.U. with a B.S. in both Strategic Communication and Photography, as well as a minor in Italian. Choosing to pursue photography as a college degree was an easy choice for me, as I have always been a creative person. I have often preferred to express myself through visual art, as opposed to a verbal or written medium. And as long as I remember, I have always enjoyed drawing, painting, and came to love photography in my early teen years.
Fashion has also been a passion of mine, as I have long admired the diverse ways in which one can express themselves and create art with the clothes they wear. I love fashion as it makes me feel beautiful, confident, and most of all, it makes me feel myself. As a photographer, I have gravitated towards portraiture, as I believe everyone has the right to feel beautiful in their own skin.
Because I aspire to become a fashion photographer, I decided to choose this genre for my capstone project. The goal of my project was to emulate the photography styles in popular fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, and Vanity Fair. While mirroring this modern style of photography, I wanted to picture the fashion of the past. I have long since admired the unique styles of different eras — such as the bright & eccentric colors of the 70s, the bold black eyeliner of the 60s, the leather bomber jackets in the 50s & 80s, the baggy jeans of the 90s, and the big belts and bling of the early 2000’s. Choosing one decade proved too difficult, so I decided to do my project on the History of Fashion as a whole, showcasing the diverse range of clothing trends over the years.
