A Fairy Tale Is Just A Click Away
When we were kids, we were enthralled with fairy tales and magical stories. We watched movies of spectacular storylines and were inspired; the girl becomes a princess, the evil queen is defeated, and the main characters live happily ever after. We would get lost in pretending we were these characters, making stories of our own. But then we grew up and we faced real life, where there isn’t always a happy ending, and the Fairy Tales we dreamt of are nothing like reality.
For my photography capstone project, I wanted to reflect and create visualizations of these fictional tales. Through my passion for fashion, makeup, nature, and portrait photography, I created five unique scenes to photograph. While I have my own interpretations and inspirations for each image set, my goal for the viewer of these images is to create their own stories, and be whisked away to a magical, whimsical place when they look at them, like the fairy tales we made up when we were kids. The outfits, makeup, and posing have been carefully chosen to allow the viewers to conceptualize and get lost creating their own stories. I want my image gallery to remind people to stay connected to their roots; to their natural surroundings and to the whimsical stories that shaped our childhood. Even as adults, we are allowed to fantasize, romanticize, and get swept up in these tales.
