Hi, I'm Maiya Maier!
My name is Maiya Maier, and I’m a portrait photographer based in Northern Arizona. My work is about people, feelings, and essence - which I aim to capture with every photo I take. I love the work that I do because I have the ability to capture people’s present moments and make them memories that will last lifetimes. Helping people express who they are and find beauty in themselves is one blessing that accompanies being a portrait photographer. With this project, Monochrome Muse, I’ve been able to explore this feeling even more.
My motivation for this project was both personal and technical. I am interested in fashion photography and wanted to take inspiration from that to create these stylized shoots. I used a Canon R6 and varied my lighting setup to shoot these images. Throughout this project, I used an FJ200 strobe light, an off-camera flash, and natural light.
This project is about showing the complexity of color and style through a monochromatic theme. Using these vivid visuals, my goal was to capture the art of color and pose, demonstrating how variations in tone, saturation, and texture can still create a dynamic visual experience. The challenge of incorporating monochrome revealed the surprising depth and versatility of color. This project also allowed me to explore and capture various styles and human expressions - beauty that sometimes gets lost in day-to-day life.
