Hi, I'm Ruqing Cao!
My initial vision was to use fabric to show the curves of the body and then use light and shadow to create a rhythm in the image. However, my poverty stopped me after I started, so I turned my attention to expressing my characters themselves. All of these pictures were made in a studio I built in my house using flash or LED lights.
I was an exchange student from Zhejiang Communication University to Northern Arizona University, and it's hard to say whether I chose the exchange to escape from a certain environment or not. I've been through a lot, but the difference between the real me and the teenager who built a house and took photos when I was 16 is probably only that my parents don't taunt me today. The reason I chose to become a photographer in the first place was that I didn't want to be photographed and defined, but then I realized that maybe modeling in a non-documentary project wasn't " being defined", like my models were just helping me to construct my subjective thoughts together.
This project may be a final tribute to the past, and in the future, I will probably go into television as a camerawoman or a stills photographer.
