Hi, I'm Wyatt Kinkade!
I’m Wyatt Kinkade, a portrait/fine art photographer from Flagstaff, AZ. I started photographing my sophomore year of high school and haven’t put the camera down since. I’m graduating this semester with a Bachelor’s of Science in Photography minoring in both Advertising and Italian.
I recently discovered how important music is to my creative process. Often while I have headphones on, my brain enters a flow state of project ideas. Last year is when I made this realization and then eventually I got the idea for this project, and I really wanted it to be all about collaboration. I have shot images for people in the past, but I had never sat down with a group of creative individuals and worked together to reach a final product. I knew that I wanted the album covers themselves to be printed on vinyl sleeves because music deserves to be displayed in
physical form as much as any other medium of art, but I had to switch to CD covers last minute due to some shipping delays.
For each of the covers and posters displayed here, I first consulted all of the bands to brainstorm together and to get to know each other. All of the ideas we came up with allowed me to widen my field of view of photography, allowing for so much creative experimentation. Initially, I only wanted to create album covers for the project, but then I figured that musicians need their
photos taken, too. This led me to doing a lot of group shots and even live music photos for the first time, introducing me to a whole new world. The bands have since used all of these photos for
promotional material, and it’s been awesome to see my images used in posters and the like.
Special thanks to Keegan Halvorsen and the Woke Mob, Caravel, Skyline, Side Project, and especially Me & Mr. Dave for playing music through my bedroom floor on late Friday nights growing up, contributing to my love of music today. These guys are all incredibly talented individuals and it has been a true privilege to get to know all of them. Another huge thanks to my family for all the support over the past few years, Rene for putting up with me during late nights, and the faculty and community in the NAU photo program I’ve grown to know well.
