Modern Day Fantasies
Fantasy and fashion are two concepts, when brought together, result in creative styling and eye-capturing photos. The overlying theme of my latest project, Modern Day Fantasies, is a mix of whimsical fashion inspired by fantasy stories and pushing myself on my location portraiture skills. The following are the six concepts that inspired each set of photos: a modern-day Juliet from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, a modern-themed Greek goddess, a medieval countrywoman who became an overnight princess, a cross between a water nymph and siren, a Chinese princess from the Han era, and a pirate captain. By allowing my models to choose their themes, there was a more natural and relaxed setting for each person.
Having always wanted to create a project that focused more on the styling of the models and environments, this whimsical and fantasy-based concept provided the perfect opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone. Growing up reading fairy tales and watching fantasy movies / shows, fantastical themes hold a special place in my heart. Communicating with each model about who or what they wanted to be, I produced images that allowed them and myself to experience a modern-day fantasy world.
