Hi, I'm Isabella (Izzy) Couture!
My name is Isabella, but I prefer Izzy. I have been studying Anthropology and Photography at NAU. I have been doing photography for seven years, going on eight. I started doing photography with my mom when we would go to the botanical gardens, and have been hobby shooting off and on until high school. I mainly do location portraiture but also nature, street photography, and documentary photography are personal projects.
With my Capstone project, I sought to combine my photography and anthropology experiences. When deciding to portray myths, I didn’t want to base aesthetics on the culture of their time, but to reflect how I think the myths would look in a modern context. I aimed to give enough cultural inspiration so that, viewed without context, you would be able to identify the culture at the very least. Each portrait should portray the personality of the character at that point in the narrative, and portraits of plot points are similar to frescoes in depicting a point of the story. I’ve elected to not include text of the Norse story, Medusa creation/rape, or Persphones kidnaping to encourage viewers to think about these photos and their meanings in the same way anthropologist/archaeologist do.
