66 Silent Again
Route 66 boasts a century-long history of economic boom, bust, disappearance and resurgence. Now, a pandemic that has touched every corner of the globe is forcing history to repeat itself. Tourism, from which the Mother Road has been reborn, is all but completely gone. This time, it is not the disappearance of the transcontinental traveler that is most jarring, but the disappearance of the international tour bus. The very same people who saw their towns devastated half a century ago now navigate a new challenge with hope and apprehension, and those who call these places home begin to rediscover their communities.
